Current situation

Based on sunlight technology, a solar power plant uses heat energy to boil water into steam and drive turbines. To utilize this energy even at night, excess energy can be used to melt salts with a high heat capacity and store the heat energy in them for use at night.

The containers containing the expanded salts and the pipes through which they flow are usually made of stainless steel L316 and are exposed to severe corrosion due to the exposure to the salts.

Disadvantages

Corrosion of the stainless steel containers and pipes can cause the system to become less efficient, as the corrosion can cause leaks and blockages in the pipes, reducing the flow of the molten salts. Corrosion can also cause the pipes to become brittle and weak, increasing the risk of breakage and leading to costly repairs. In addition, corrosion can cause the salts to become contaminated, which can affect the quality of the energy produced.
